Two women.
One system.
A reckoning.
Welcome to British boarding school. Yes, it’s Hogwarts - but without the magic, the sorting hat, or a decent defence against the dark arts. The Boarders follows two women, one British and one Vietnamese, as they swap childhood tales of tuck boxes, tormentors, and the type of emotional neglect that builds character (or a very good therapist’s pension). What was promised as an educational privilege turns out to be more like a crash course in abandonment, shame, and how to iron your socks right for inspection. But don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom. There’s satire, courtroom drama, and at least one moment where the audience wonders if they too need therapy. The Boarders: proof that trauma shared is trauma halved (and also quite decent theatre).
Audience Reviews
“I loved it. I loved the arc. I loved how you started blowing apart the privilege thing. I loved the relationship portrayed between you and Tricia. This is especially powerful in the context of identity.”

“Incredibly powerful. I love the contrast and comparison with Sadie and Tricia. Fascinating to see depicted the contrast and comparison between the English girls boarding experience and that with the experience of a girl coming from overseas”

"The wonderful team at Lang Spot have created a truly incredible play that is an absolute must-watch: The Boarders.
The Boarders tells the story of two girls’ experiences at a boarding school in England. Written and performed by Sadie Maddocks and Tricia Nguyen, both of whom actually attended boarding school themselves, the play is deeply personal, powerful, and eye-opening.
The performance aims to shed light on the challenges of life within such institutions, while also breaking down common stereotypes and misconceptions held by the public. At the same time, Sadie and Tricia bring their own lived experiences into the play through a unique blend of dialogue, comedy, and dance.
As someone who spent eight years at a boarding school, I found Boarders to be emotional, raw, and unforgettable. At moments it was even traumatic, yet somehow healing. I remember thinking to myself: “Finally, a way to educate people about what it was really like.”
This play is truly one of a kind, and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who has the chance to go and witness this amazing piece of theatre."

“It’s so, so powerful — and such an important story to tell today. I’m not sure I’ve seen that intense honesty and revelation before.”
